Everyone in Erlangen knows them from their childhood: the boat and the slide in the children’s section of the Mengin shoe store on Hauptstraße. The store is now closing—and the boat and slide were supposed to be removed. But not if ZAM has anything to say about it! And so, on a glorious September Sunday, the “Slide Rescue” mission began…

A good 30 volunteers gathered to bring the two items to the ZAM, which Josef Tretter GmbH & Co. KG—as the successor to Mengin—had kindly donated to us. No sooner said than done—after just half an hour of hard work, the hardest part was done: the boat and slide had been hauled up the narrow staircase from the shoe store’s basement and were ready to be transported down the main street.

Now the “parade” could begin: On roller boards, the boat and slide were pushed 60 house numbers down the street—across half the downtown area—to the ZAM—much to the amazement of passersby… Fortunately, so many people pitched in that the transport went off without a hitch; obstacles like manhole covers and city buses were skillfully navigated around. The boat and slide are now safely stored in the woodshop—ideas for future uses are always welcome 😉

So there’s always something going on at ZAM—as this impressive “ZAMpacken” event clearly showed!
